Hot air balloons...one of my favorite subjects! What first struck me about this was the color...the colors are vibrant, bold, and gorgeous!

A few things about the composition...despite the fact that it's hot air balloons, it's a little uninteresting in regards to the angle. It's a flat, straight-on shot of the scene... It's pretty, and it's a cool record of the event, but there's nothing that really draws the eye in except for the bright colors.

Maybe if the shot were taken from lower down, or higher up... Maybe if there was a clear focus to the picture, or a discernible vanishing point. Is the scene from someone's point of view, or is it supposed to be a sweeping panorama? There needs to be something interesting, something exciting that makes this photo stand out from the many other similar photos of balloon festivals and races. (The little mountains in the background don't help much...they're too close to the balloons and mess up the perception of depth.)

It also looks like the picture might be a bit grainy--not sure if that's the photograph, or if it's the scanner's fault, though. Scanners can be evil. : P

I do like that you've got all those people in the shot, right up next to the balloons. It helps to show just how immense those things are...something that's hard to understand unless you've been right next to one. (I have. It's awesome!)

I like the man and the little girl right in the shot...but I am a little confused about it. The picture doesn't focus on them...and it doesn't try to take attention away from them either. And so I am left wondering if they were supposed to be in the shot as some sort of focus, or if they just happened to be in the way of the shot.

Anyway, I do like the picture...and I hope I've been of some help!

Thanks appreciate that very much this is my first time using a Digital SLR camera. I just bought it about 2 weeks ago. So having to learn how to do things with it is part of the process. I am pretty pleased with the results so far. The only problem I had was night shots. I forgot to turn the image stabilization back on for my handheld shots so most of my images we crap.
